AKRONKeith to speakAKRON: Ward 8 Councilwoman-elect Marilyn Keith will speak at a presentation hosted by the West Akron Kiwanis at 6 p.m. Monday.Keith will share her vision for Ward 8 and the city and discuss the problems and opportunities facing both.The talk will be held at the Northwest Akron Community Center, 1730 Shatto Ave.Appetizers, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages will be served.Neighbor chargedAKRON: An Akron man is accused of fondling his elderly neighbor while visiting the woman at a hospital’s intensive care unit.Ronald St. Clair, 63, is charged in Akron Municipal Court with one count of gross sexual imposition. He was released on a bond after his arrest this week.His attorney, Charles Quinn, declined comment Friday.Police said St. Clair visited his 75-year-old neighbor at the Akron General Medical Center on Oct. 22. The woman was on a ventilator.Authorities say a nurse told investigators the patient’s blood-pressure alarm sounded during the visit.The nurse told police that when she came to the room, a man was holding the woman’s hand under the patient’s blanket.The patient, who was unable to move while on the ventilator, was “visibly upset” during the visit, but calmed after the man left, the nurse told police. Afterward, the woman told police that the man assaulted her during two visits.Jim Gosky, a hospital spokesman, said Friday the nurse acted appropriately to protect the patient once it became clear she was in distress.CAMPAIGN TRAILJudicial ceremonyAKRON: The public is invited to witness the swearing-in ceremony of Municipal Judges Annalisa S. NORTH CANTON SCHOOLSEmployee gets jobNORTH CANTON: The North Canton Board of Education on Thursday appointed Todd Henne, an associate principal at Hoover High School, to the position of business manager for the district.Henne replaces John Stanley, who will retire in February. Henne will continue as associate principal and will work with Stanley during the transition period.From February through the end of the school year, Chuck Radich, who retired from the district as an associate principal at Hoover, will return to fill that position.The board on Thursday also honored departing members Nancy Bundy and Jordan Greenwald.Bundy did not seek re-election; Greenwald lost his bid to retain his seat in November.NORTHEAST OHIOMilitary ceremonyJACKSON TWP.: A call-to-duty ceremony for the 70 soldiers with the Ohio Army National Guard’s Company B, 3rd Battalion, 238th Aviation Regiment heading for Afghanistan will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Faith Family Church, 8200 Freedom Ave. NW.The soldiers provide general aviation support for Army units.Previously designated as Company G, 1-137th Aviation, the unit was deployed to Iraq in 2004-05 in support of the Hawaii Army National Guard. The unit’s name later was changed and is known as “Ohio’s Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook Company.”The soldiers will train at Fort Hood, Texas, before going to Afghanistan.Locally, they train in Green at the Ohio Army National Guard site at the Akron-Canton Airport.PORTAGE COUNTYAgency to moveRAVENNA: The Portage Workforce Connection is getting a new address.Portage County’s one-stop center for employment and training programs will close at 1081 W. Main St. on Dec. 22 and reopen Jan. 3 on the first floor of the county’s Administration Building, 449 S. Meridian St.Hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The telephone number will remain 330-296-2841.The county intends to declare the West Main Street property surplus and put the building up for auction or sealed bids.
