Police said they were called to break up a fight between two girls in Carrick earlier this week and ended up arresting one of the girls' mothers.

Julie Richards was arrested after investigators said she provoked and videotaped a fight involving her 16-year-old daughter.

Police said Richards lives across the street from where the fight happened. Officers were called to the Carrick neighborhood to break up the fight on Monday night.

Richards told Channel 11's Renee Kaminski that she did not encourage the fight and was only telling her daughter to defend herself if needed.

"The girl attacked her. She literally attacked her so my daughter fought back," Richards said. "The girl would not let go of her hair so I said, 'Kia, if you want her to get off you grab her by her hood and it'll choke her and she'll have to let go.' As I'm saying that the cops pulled up."

According to the police report, Richards was warned four times to step away from the situation before she was arrested.

"I was not egging it on. I went out there to make sure nobody jumped in," said Richards.

Richards said her daughter suffered bruises in the fight. She is facing several charges including, inciting a riot, disorderly conduct and corruption of minors.
